Magnificent Matter

Chemistry and materials science come alive at Morehead Planetarium and Science Center!

Strange things may happen when you change the properties of certain materials, and some materials exhibit behavior you might not expect. Science Live! Magnificent Matter explores the science of materials and chemistry. We'll watch materials change states, put stain resistant clothing to the test and see what happens during some amazing experiments!

Our Science LIVE! programs allow guests to interact with Morehead educators and the science of the world around them. Science LIVE! uses many different props and supplies to help convey science in a fun, engaging way. Throughout the presentation, volunteers from the audience are asked to go "on stage" and be part of the show by helping with demonstrations and experiments.

Please note that Morehead does not offer all of its shows every day and that exhibits may be closed for maintenance or for classes during some hours.

Please note that seasonal schedules change four times each year (spring, summer, fall and holiday), and some shows are not offered during every schedule.

In addition to its public shows, Morehead offers shows during the week especially for school classes and other field trip groups. These school shows do not appear on the seasonal schedule but do appear on Morehead's daily calendar.

If seats are available, the public may purchase tickets to school shows.

However, school groups with reserved seating have first priority on any remaining seats (for example, if extra chaperons attend), so Morehead cannot guarantee that public seats will be available for school shows.
